5 Day Theatre Project!
For this project we collaborated with other schools across the world, in our case they were mostly in America. A theatre teacher organized this event but you could easily do this with your own classmates, or with other students from different classes. Our process went like this:
DAY 1
1. We received stimuli from the organizer. In our case we had a song, a series of visual images and a selection of poems, but you can use whatever you like.
2. We selected one of the stimuli we liked, in our case it was the song.
DAY 2
3. As a group we brainstormed ideas for a one-act play based off of this stimuli.
4. We wrote our own script over two class periods, editing it as we went.
DAY 3
5. We sent our script to the other schools.
DAY 4
6. We received the scripts from other schools and we read them as a group.
7. We picked the scripts that interested us (topics, number of actors etc) the most or were the easiest to perform.
Day 5
8. We selected and acted out two different scripts in class.

Here's what WE thought about the process of working together, verses writing on your own:

Here's what WE thought about the process of working together, verses writing on your own:
AxelA collaborative project is based upon the different opinions and a thought of the people involved. It is different because it is a mix of ideas in opposition to a solo writing task. When you compose something on your own it is purely your opinion as well as your own ideas. The other is a mix of various different thoughts and is never based on one participating character only. If there is a negative critique on a collaborative project it can probably be undone because there are various opinions involved. A solo is probably always harder since a single person has to put his/her mind to it, collaborative groups have various thoughts flowing through so more things get done and they get done faster.
ArturThe biggest difference between working alone and by yourself is in groups, the ideas flow easily. You have different perspectives so this makes the probability of writing insulting things less possible. If you’re alone you get often may get stuck on various things while you try to develop your ideas. And also, when you’re alone, the play may seem extremely interesting but the audience may not enjoy it as much.
DanyaI noticed a couple of differences with collaborative and solo writing, and I believe both are good, it simply depends on the assignment. In my opinion, collaborative writing is so much easier because there are many ideas given from different points of views, many people can work together to edit it correctly, make sure it is enjoyable for the audience, and such things. If you are writing it solo, you may like what you wrote about but the audience could be bored by it, or you wouldn’t have good ideas or know how to edit it. On the other hand, when writing solo you have to come up with an idea on your own which would please the audience, make sense, and have the correct grammar and stage corrections, as well as transmit a good message and theme. Writing solo can be difficult for most, like me, but for some people it can be simpler than collaborative writing. When writing solo you have to put in more effort because you are on your own and this play, rather than being shared, is yours. So you are to blame if it is bad, or be congratulated if good, it all depends on you.
